October 15th 2011
The fourth occasion of the Carne Trophy took place in St. Helen's Bay on Saturday October 15th. The weather was a bit dodgy this year, but once again we managed to get away without a soaking, though it was a bit cold. Following the popularity of the format last year, once again the competition was a scramble. Mirroring the first running of this event in 2008, the trophy was decided on count-back. Even the back nine did not separate the top two teams and it took the back six to sort it out. In the end, previous winner Fergal McGrath, along with rookies Guy Wheeler and Marc Farrelly were the winners from Tommy O'Donnell, Russell Burke and Pat Hennessy. Joe Connolly, Pat Shortall and Stephen Connolly were third. Congratulations also to Fergal for winning the Gay Reilly golfer-of-the day award.  Fergal received the ‘green blazer’ from last year’s winner Tommy O’Donnell.

Absent friends were once again remembered, especially Molly herself, to whom the competition is dedicated, and also our friend and former competitor, Gay Reilly, who we sadly lost last year.
Another great meal was had in the St. Helen's Bay clubhouse, many thanks to Liz, Donal and the rest of the team.  The steaks were better than ever!  This was followed by the customary debriefing session in the Kilrane Inn.
