October 18th 2014
The 7th Carne Trophy event took place in St. Helen's Bay on Saturday October 18th.  As is now tradition, the weather was very kind and although there was a bit of a breeze it was a beautiful bright and warm day for the middle of October.
It was great to welcome a number of old friends back including Joe Connolly, Marc Farrelly, Paddy Burke, Peter Ryan, Pat Shortall and, of course, Tommy O'Donnell.
Tommy, Joe, Paddy, Guy and Marc
Fergal, Ian, Jock and Danny
Paul, Peter, Pat and Russell.
As it happened, Tommy, Joe, Paddy, Guy and Marc came third with a very respectable 82. Fergal, Ian, Jock and Danny were just a single stroke over par for a super 73 which would have won it most years.  However, they were beaten by four shots by the winners who came in at three under for an amazing 69 with birdies on the 3rd, 4th and 7th holes and no dropped shots. Led by Paul, the winning team also had Peter, Pat and Russell.
With Paul Phillips kindly excluding himself, the Gay Reilly Golfer of the Day went to Guy who also won the longest drive. Paul, Fergal, Ian and Danny picked up prizes for nearest the pin on the Par 3s.  The Green Jacket, now being awarded for the leading 'family' member on the winning team (at the request of Molly's son-in-law Joe) went to Russell.
This year the meal and presentations took place in the Kilrane Inn with Jim and his team giving a great welcome to all and serving up a superb dinner.  Absent friends were toasted, including Molly, Gay and Patrick. Danny was congratulated on his recent engagement to Natalie, daughter of Paddy (B). Following the presentation of prizes, a great night was had by all with both the dart board and the pool table getting good workouts!
This year’s winners were Paul Phillips, Peter Ryan, Pat Shortall and Russell Burke.
